Pope Francis officially opened the Holy Year with the rite of the Opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter at 7pm on December 24. He then presided over the celebration of Mass on the night of the Lord's Nativity inside the basilica. Watch the event [here].
The theme of the Jubilee 2025 is "Pilgrims of Hope." This is a jubilee that occurs once every 25 years. Other special holy years: 1983 Holy Year of the Redemption (1950th anniversary of Jesus' Death and Resurrection).
2016 Jubilee of Mercy. 2033 Holy Year of the Redemption (2000th anniversary of Jesus' Death and Resurrection).
