ASCENSION
60 YEARS OF FAITH

SAVE THE DATE

We have 3 special events to celebrate on Ascension Sunday, May 21, 2023.

1- Some of our youth will be confirmed by Bishop Cantú at the 11 AM Mass.
2- We commemorate the feast day of our Parish on Ascension Sunday.
3- Our Parish 60th Anniversary Year begins.

To honor these 3 events, Ascension will host a reception after the 11 AM Mass that day in Worner Hall.
To make our celebration truly special for everyone, we need volunteers to help with set-up and clean-up.
If you can help, please sign up at the bulletin boards near the church's main exit.

60TH ANNIVERSARY OF ASCENSION
Did you know that Ascension Parish was founded in 1964? In preparation for our upcoming 60th Anniversary, we invite you to participate in one of these teams:
(1) Diamond Jubilee Committee,

(2) Spiritual Renewal Committee.
The first team will plan major celebrations in our Jubilee from May 21, 2023, to May 9, 2024.
The second team explores ways to help our parish in its spiritual renewal: Word (knowing our faith), Worship (celebrating our faith), and Witness (sharing our faith).
If you are interested, please contact Fr. Hao at ascensionpastor@dsj.org.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE WORLD AND THE CHURCH IN 1964?
When Ascension Parish started in 1964, humans were making great strides in space travel (the first Gemini flight, etc.), the Beatles took America by storm, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law, etc. In the same year, the New Mass in English was introduced into US churches (Nov. 29). Three years later, on October 29, 1967, our current octagonal church was dedicated by Archbishop Joseph T. McGucken.
